13 Home and Decor Trends to Look for in 2018
Despite our love of all things pink, lavender is forecasted to be the “it” color for 2018. At least,
according to our sources at House Beautiful. We’ve been scouring the internet (and the
magazine section at Publix) and have compiled a list of home and decor trends we think you
can expect to see in 2018.
Lavender:
Move over millennial pink, lavender is making it’s way into design trends and we’re loving what
we see! “…it’s being used to bring out beautiful, soft tones with accents that are deeper,” says
Nancy Fire, creative director of HGTV HOME, Design Works International and Studio NYC
Design.
High Contrast Palettes:
Think saturated color with white to balance it out. Want to pick a bold color but you’re a little
nervous or unsure? Joanna Gaines recommends green, because its found in nature and it’s
timeless.
Circle Patterns:
Hard geometrics are going to be hot and circles are the new triangle! Our design friends are
suggesting that you start small with accent pillows or dive in with graphic wallpaper.
Tone on Tone:
Joanna Gaines says, “When trim work and walls are the same color it feels interesting.” If you
want to embrace the trend, try out painting a piece of furniture a similar shade to your walls.
Brass Accents:
Brushed silver is being pushed aside for golden brass tones that are warm and subtle.
Olive Green:
Nothing says cozy like a nice shade of green. Colors to watch for: olive and chartreuse.
Natural Elements:
I feel like we’ve been watching this trend emerge in a big way over the past year. Think raw
wood and stone…
Woven Textures:
As a mom of 3 kids, baskets are my secret weapon when it comes to staying organized and
keeping the clutter off the floor. Baskets and other natural, artisan accessories will continue to
give homes an international flair in 2018.
Colorful Trim:
In the south, we love bright white trim. This trend is going to ask us to step outside our comfort
zone, but I promise it’ll be worth it! Charcoal gray trim is a great place to start—it breaks up the
white but doesn’t stray too far for conservative tastes.
Tile Twists:
We’ve seen subway tile make its way into remodels and new construction—affordable and
timeless, the shift in 2018 will be larger format tile and even slab sized porcelain sheets. This
shift is being described as not only aesthetic, but one of function, as larger tile has less grout
and is both easier to install and maintain.
Velvet:
I’m in love with how this trend in fashion has carried over into design! Velvet accent pieces in
bold colors are such a fun splurge and totally on point for 2018.
Bold Patterns:
FLORALS ARE HERE TO STAY! Geometric shapes, florals… whether its in the bedroom or the
living room, you can’t go wrong with a fun pattern.
Artisan Fixtures:
This is my absolute favorite trend to watch for in 2018! The options are limitless! Think local
artisans and small businesses manufacturing high-end light fixtures or those farmhouse tables
we’re all still drooling over. When design trends take a shift that supports small businesses, we can expect to see all
kinds of creative collaboration in both personal and community design opportunities.
