Summer is just around the corner! With this exciting time of year comes fun in the sun and, unfortunately, the dreaded cry of “I’m bored!” from children of all ages. If you are like me and are eager to keep your kids moving and learning this summer, its time to start exploring the wide variety of camp options our scenic city has to offer.
As you begin your camping search, here are a few things you’ll want to consider before sifting through the options;
- Schedule– hours & days of the week offered; full day, half day, and overnight camps
- Activities– arts, sports, recreational, educational, spiritual
- Cost– can range anywhere from $100 to several hundred dollars per week so set a camp budget for the entire summer and divide accordingly
- Ages– look at the ranges offered and be sure your child will be grouped with children close in age so he or she will be sure to feel comfortable and safe to have fun
- Location– how close is the camp to your work or home; down the road, across town or hours away
With all of these things in mind, I suggest you start by hopping on the internet and searching for options. Below are a couple of local websites I have personally found useful. These sites include helpful lists and links to a multitude of camping options.
As the mother of a seven year old daughter, we have had the opportunity to test out several of the local summer camp offerings and are excited to leave you with two of our top picks. So far, the summer camps offered at the Tennessee Aquarium and High Point Climbing have been on our repeat list, so be sure to check these out!
~ Happy camping! ~
