HOUSES THE PILGRIMS LIVED IN DURING THE FIRST THANKSGIVING

Posted OnNov 16, 2017

We have come leaps and bounds from where we were 400 year ago during the first Thanksgiving between the Pilgrims and Wampanoags. It was fun taking a deeper look into the homes the Pilgrims had in the 1620s, so we decided to share the information with you. The Pilgrims actually arrived in the winter and they had to immediately start building their homes or stay aboard the Mayflower until it was warm enough. Manpower and resources were limited but they made due. The house frames were made from slats of wood nailed together and then covered with a homemade mortar. The roofs where thatch roofs, however, they had a tendency to catch on fire because fire was the one thing that heated the house. The floors were dirt floors. Typically the floor plan was very simple and it was common for the house to just be one room that served as the bedroom, kitchen, dinning room, etc. If they were lucky, they had a window or two in the home.

Clearly, we are more blessed than we can even imagine. Our house construction techniques have dramatically changed since then. It is amazing to think how far we have come and progressed to ensure our houses stand for years and protect our families. That is why our team loves this market. Being able to assist someone in one of the biggest decisions of their life brings us a deep joy! We hope you have a fabulous and safe Thanksgiving!
